YOU ARE RIGHT

It  at all start Chinmark when two of my colleagues were playing table tennis game and I desired to join them but they declined saying that I do not know how to play.

Looking back now, I can only say that I am getting better because when I left that scene, I wondered if there was anything I was good at so that I can concentrate on it. I mean, I was embarrassed but I had to bear it. My ego was bruised but I had to nurse and my integrity was questioned but I had to repair it.

I am a human being. There was no way I would have been good at nothing. They just could have allowed me to play for sometime just to see if I could learn but they refused.

Today, I am successful but I cannot easily forget that day when I stood before my friends defenselessly.

Do not worry if some people think that you are good at nothing. You are right. It is not a good tag on you but there is nothing you can do to erase it except if you choose to Make A Difference which is what I am calling you into.

Real Estate Consultancy is a noble profession. You don't have to be a Ph.D holder in any field before you can make it but if you have one, then, it is an added advantage.

Yes, I do not know how to play the table tennis game but I know how to sell lands and that is what I do for a living. I can play any other game to calm my nerves and I can also read books when I am less busy. So, I have nothing to lose since I can learn how to play the game sometime in the future but for now, let us focus on selling landed properties.

What I am saying is this: do not look down on anybody simply because you believe that there is something that you can do better than that person. Chances are, they are good at something that you know nothing about.

How I Was Duped

It ts not a seemingly thing for a person of my calibre to be duped but I was confess that it happened under a sophisticated environment.

I had to allow my anger to subside  before penning this down because it beats my imagination to know that some people do not have human sympathy.

During the course of my stay, I learnt that not everybody should be trusted. A time came, I was wondering if this young man would have a re-think and then, give me my money but he never did. Instead, he conspired against me to have the issue swept under the carpet.

I am into the business that involves getting contracts from people and then, carrying out same. One of the days, I was on my own. So, somebody offered me a contract. In fact, he was happy to see me but I didn't know that it was a trap. Which (by the way) I should have avoided. I don't listen to gossips about people until I experience them by myself.

I am not bitter. I am only writing this for future generations to see and avoid being duped.

I was contracted to pack sand on that day, which I did. After everything, I went  and told him that I have completed the job. Only for him to say that he never gave me any such job. In fact, I was contemplating whether it was a joke initially but as seconds run into minutes, minutes run into hours and hours run into days and with the money not forthcoming, I knew immediately that it was a scam and that it was no longer a joke.

This young man is evil. The pay was N3000 to pack a trip of sand at my own discretion but he claimed that I left his work to attend to another person's work on daily pay (which was never true), next was that he claimed I never touched the said sand talk more of packing it but heaven bears me witness that I did and that I even spoke with some of the workers that made use of the sand for tiling. I made them to know that I was the person that provided the heap of sand which they were using to mix cement  and then do tiles at the building so that they could let their boss know about it.

Before I conclude, I would like to share the next excuse that he gave so as to deny me my pay which was a blatant lie. He said that the person that contracted him to award the contract to me was facing challenges. And the next thing he said was that the man (who was supposed to pay me) had travelled.

As our people would say, it is better to let the sleeping dog lie but I wouldn't want another soul to pass through such a terrible disaster again.

YOU ARE NEXT

Before I left, nobody knew where I was going to, whether I would be back soon or never but all I know was that I was headed to somewhere.

The cool breeze emanating from the yonder part of Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway ushered me in into the abode of the Chinmark Avenue. When I stopped at Thinkers corner junction, I contacted the person who gave me the directions in the first place but there was no need for that for that since I can find my own way by asking but I had to call him just to show that we are still in line.

Work started in earnest after I had arrived. Since I was used to construction works, I found it easy to be integrated into the society in which I found myself anew. To start with, I had to adapt to the change of weather, get used to some new faces and then learn how to say, "I am done, Sir." If need be.

Of all the personalities that I met at Chinmark Group, Kalu was the most striking one. Being a well-built person, I knew that there was no way I could get close to him without committing an offence. So, when he asked me out of the site that afternoon, I knew that I had committed one. Yes, I am that kind of a person. I can even make you angry just for you to notice me but I was not worried seeing that he needed sometime to calm down which I was eager to provide.

Having made sure that his anger had subsided, I went back to the construction arena without minding whose ox is gored.

One afternoon, Kalu caught a thief at Chinmark to everybody's chagrin. Left alone, I was never amused because I knew that he could do everything humanly possible to avoid miscreants from entering the place.

Within me, I wondered if Kalu could deploy this his unassuming nature into securing the bag in his own state by being a politician but that is a story for another day altogether.

I only took up my pen to write because the situation at hand calls for it.
